Elegant woods & modern atmosphere: Equipped with high-quality fitness equipment, you can work out and unwind in our small gym. Our individual fitness area has a rowing machine, a treadmill, two bicycle ergometers, a pulley, a wall bars and exclusive swing dumbbells made of wood and leather. The innovative equipment was made from renewable resources and solid woods in a manufactory in Germany and has already won a design award. So your workout in our hotel will be a little experience!

The Harz Mountains are a popular region for demanding motorcyclists, who can enjoy winding roads and beautiful landscapes here. As a motorcycle region, the area offers unique riding and nature experiences between high mountains and deep valleys and forests with waterfalls and streams. Romantik Hotel Freiwerk is a motorcycle-friendly accommodation. From here, we especially recommend the Stolberg tour through the southern and central Harz Mountains. The motorcycle route starts in Stolberg and leads via Neudorf and Dankerode towards Abberoda. Then it continues via Quedlinburg and Westerhausen to Blankenburg. On this stage, a stop in beautiful Halberstadt is also worthwhile. From Blankenburg it goes via Hasselfelde and Neustadt back towards Stolberg.

The half-timbered town of Stolberg offers an almost cinematic setting for getting married: Bridal couples are chauffeured through the alleys in a historic wedding or stagecoach. Couples say "I do" in the town hall, a magnificent half-timbered house from the 15th century that harbours an architectural secret. Weddings in the Red Salon of Stolberg Castle or in the castle chapel also have their own special charm. Experience the start of your future together in a special place - far away from stress and hectic.

In the midst of greenery, thoughts flow: FreiWerk offers the perfect setting for small conferences, workshops, meetings and seminars and an atmosphere in which participants feel comfortable. Our conference room is suitable for events with up to 16 people and is of course equipped with modern communication technology. Because a conference is also about the supporting programme, we create social programmes according to your wishes, organise barbecue evenings, outdoor activities, theatre visits, guided tours of the city or museums.

Hovering above the Harz Mountains: The Thale Erlebniswelt cable car is one of the highlights in the Harz Mountains and promises breathtaking nature experiences at exciting heights in the midst of greenery. The cable car takes you to the legendary Hexentanzplatz and the nearby Rosstrappe, from where you can enjoy a fantastic view in wildly romantic surroundings. Particularly child- and family-friendly is also the summer toboggan run Harz-Bob as well as the fun island at the foot of the cable car.

On well-signposted hiking routes of varying degrees of difficulty, you can reach destinations from Stolberg such as the Josephskreuz, a small Eiffel Tower in the Harz, so to speak, the Unterharz pond and ditch system or the tranquil community of Stiege with its wooden stave church. The hearts of nostalgia and railway fans beat faster when the steam locomotives of the famous Harz narrow-gauge railway puff through the forest and cross the hiking trails.

But the Harz is far more than just a natural idyll. The region was already a settlement area in early history and a few centuries later became the centre of power in the medieval German Empire, the cradle of German politics and culture. History has left its mark: Imperial palaces and castle ruins, cathedral treasures, half-timbered towns and churches, old mines and waterworks, monuments and thousands of treasures in the region's museums.

With the Harz narrow-gauge railway, you can experience the area as it passes by from a historic steam locomotive. Ride on rails through woods and fields right through the magical mountain world. The trains run between the World Heritage town of Quedlinburg, the Thuringian town of Nordhausen, the colourful town of Wernigerode and the Brocken railway station, 1125 metres above sea level.     

If you feel like it, you can get your personal "Harzer Wandernadel" (Harz Hiking Needle): Stamping points have been set up at a total of 222 places in the Harz that are worth seeing. Nature lovers fill their hiking pass with stamps - and set out to become hiking king or even hiking emperor. Your Majesty, lace up your shoes!

The small town of Stolberg in the Harz region surprises with its great history and romantic flair. Situated in the midst of forests, the small town with only 1,000 inhabitants is considered a half-timbered jewel, the pearl of the southern Harz region and some even consider it the "most beautiful village in Germany" - as voted in a poll by the online travel magazine Travelbook. It is no wonder that Stolberg left the competition behind, because the dreamy alleys, the half-timbered ensemble with houses from the 15th to the 18th century and the castle - residence of the Stolberg counts and princes - towering above everything exude a special charm.

From Stolberg, your excursions will take you to idyllic little towns, impressive vantage points, accessible caves, ancient monasteries, mighty palaces, hidden forest lakes, romantic parks and gardens, castles or palaces. For hikers and mountain bikers, the Harz offers fantastically beautiful trails.
