Very good hotel with excellent and friendly service!
Lovely, well appointed room, compact but adequate en-suite. Great service (especially from Michael). Great breakfast.

Very nice hotel, all the staff were very friendly and helpful, great location, superb atmosphere, very clean and well designed. The restaurant was also very good and the terrace bar was also very good. My only complaint would be that the bathroom was very small in our room, but overall an excellent hotel and we really enjoyed our visit.

From the moment you go through the front doors you feel welcome. The staff are most attentive and courteous, always ready to help - invariably with a happy smile. The variety of food provided for breakfast is extensive and the food for this and dinner in the evening is high quality. The accommodation generally is very comfortable and well kept. We have thoroughly enjoyed every occasion we have stayed at the Barbarossa and hope to repeat the experience on future occasions.

In the heart of Constance, the Romantik Hotel Barbarossa awaits you directly in the historic old town on Obermarkt with the credo "a truly hospitable house in a historic location". The Miehle family has been running the hotel since 1874 and is now in its 5th generation. The hotel is characterised by historical details and the eventful history of Constance. The 48 lovingly and individually furnished rooms skilfully combine the historic charm of the house with modern comfort.

Your hosts

The Miehle family has been hosting guests in this hotel since 1874. In the meantime, the house is run by the 5th generation, Florian Miehle and his wife Christiane. Once set up as an inn with home-style cooking, other buildings were added over the course of time to accommodate guest rooms. Florian Miehle took over the house from his parents in 2010 and continues to run it in the old family tradition and in the hope that one day one of the three daughters will take over the hotel in friendly hospitality.

The a la carte restaurant "Weinstube" with its old wall panelling is the "good parlour" of Barbarossa. Here you can enjoy in peace and look out over the lively life on the Obermarkt. This is how the earlier generations of Miehle innkeepers kept it, who still look down from the ancestral gallery and welcome you today.

The kitchen team under head chef Jens Wagner creates sophisticated regional, but also international dishes and seasonal specialities for you according to the motto: "Create a culinary experience with honest cuisine that makes a lasting impression". The wine list is of course dominated by the fine Lake Constance wines, complemented by selected wines from other growing regions. The menu is rounded off with European and international wines.

The terrace on the Obermarkt connects the beautiful old town with Barbarossa. While it was a transhipment point for wood and wine in the Middle Ages, today the Obermarkt invites you to end the day with a genuine Viertele of wine on warm summer days. The kitchen serves a mix of modern and light cuisine with international forays and Baden classics.

We deal responsibly with our environment at the beautiful Lake Constance: For almost ten years we have been operating an energy-efficient combined heat and power plant and recover the waste heat from the cooling system for our hot water. In order to save precious energy & environmentally harmful chemical cleaning agents, we now only clean the rooms when requested by the guests. 99% of the guests approve of this approach. Since 2023 we have a photovoltaic system with 21 kWh/peak on one of our roofs. Among other things, we use the electricity to make the air conditioning of the guest rooms almost CO2-neutral. We also strive for the future of our industry by continuing to train young professionals.

Relaxing and letting go is easy with a soothing treatment in our well-being room. The offer ranges from the classic aroma oil massage to the Thai or hot stone massage. We kindly ask you to make a reservation in good time, preferably when booking your room.

Put your feet up and take some time out on one of the terraces on the 3rd or 4th floor. Enjoy the flair of the old town and listen to the gentle lapping of the water wall. Free of charge is the view of the tower and ridge turret of the cathedral. The Old Town Terraces are a wonderful place to escape the hustle and bustle of the alleys.

Our hotel is located directly in the pedestrian passage, therefore most navigation systems cannot show the way correctly. You can enter "Obere Laube" into your GPS as a reference point.

The authorised access to the hotel is via Paradiesstr. which you may use for entry and exit. Please turn right from Obere Laube into Paradiesstr. and drive along this street until you reach Obermarkt. 

You can park your car in front of the hotel for 10 minutes for loading and unloading. Please note that in summer you must park your car on Paradiesstr. in front of our terrace (please do not park in the fire brigade driveway - this is marked with a sign). In winter you can stop your car directly on the Obermarkt.
