The host family Boddenberg has been living and working with passion and commitment in the heart of Friedrichstadt for more than 45 years. In the 1960s, grandfather Boddenberg opened a small café, which was expanded into a hotel in the 1970s. Since 2017, Jan Boddenberg has been managing the Romantik Hotel Aquarium in the 3rd generation and, together with his wife Mareta, their two sons and the entire team, is creating an inn of the future that does not forget loving traditions.

Yes, parking spaces are available in the hotel courtyard. There is a charge of €10 per car/night for a parking space. Due to the limited number of hotel parking spaces, the car park should be reserved before arrival.
The hotel is not suitable for wheelchair users due to the structural conditions. The hotel is partially accessible for people with physical disabilities. This should be clarified personally and individually with the hotel staff.
Yes dogs are allowed in some of the rooms and must therefore be mentioned directly when booking a room. Dogs are charged €15 per dog/per night. A maximum of two dogs are allowed to stay with you.

The hotel offers breakfast daily from 7:30 - 10:30 am. Breakfast costs €23.00 per person. There is always a small selection of lactose and gluten-free products. However, it is advisable to contact the hotel to discuss specific requests and intolerances.
Yes, the hotel has a pool, sauna and fitness room. Massages and treatments can be booked separately.
Pool:
The pool has a temperature of approx. 30° and is 4.5 x 8 m in size and 1.35 m deep. The pool can only be used during opening hours between 8:00 - 21:00.
Sauna:
The Finnish sauna is automatically switched on daily from 16:00 - 21:00. Earlier use is of course possible. Please contact the hotel. Later use after 21:00 is unfortunately not possible for safety reasons.
Massages:
The hotel offers various massages. As the wellness department is very small, appointments should definitely be booked before arrival. Massages are also possible spontaneously, provided that the appointment diary is not full. The hotel works with Dr Hauschka natural products. These can also be purchased on site. The SPA staff will be happy to advise you.
Fitness room:
The fitness room can be used daily from 08:00 - 21:00 and has a treadmill, bike, cross trainer, vibration plate, boxing bag, yoga mat and power station.
Bathrobes, towels & slippers:
Bathrobes will be waiting for you in your room on arrival. We do not offer bathrobes for children at the hotel. Towels are available for you in the swimming pool and sauna area. The towels are provided exclusively for use in the hotel. Bathing shoes are not provided at the hotel for sustainability reasons. Please bring them with you from home.
One of the family rooms is equipped with a shower and a bathtub. All other rooms have a shower only.
No, none of the rooms have a balcony or terrace.
The local aquarists met here and the former café became the clubhouse. At that time, there were ten aquariums in the rooms.

Many years ago, the trained confectioner Andresen ran a café on this site. On 1 July 1970, the Boddenberg family took over the café and is now the 3rd generation to run it. In the meantime, the small café has become much more... In 2021, the family decided on a comprehensive remodelling, but they don't want to forget that everything had its "origins" here.
If you are arriving by car, please use a navigation device. Parking spaces are available for our hotel guests in the inner courtyard.
From Hamburg, the RE6 in the direction of Sylt/Westerland will take you to Friedrichstadt in approx. 1 hour and 40 minutes. From the train station you can reach the hotel on foot in approx. 1km and approx. 15min. A bus also connects the station with the city center. A cab is not always available at the station so we recommend a reservation in advance.
