Friedewald, Waldhessen and the Rhön offer a variety of routes for cyclists of all kinds - from leisure cyclists to mountain bikers, e-bikers and racing cyclists. Around Friedewald and Bad Hersfeld, green woodlands, nature parks and fantastic views await you. Hills, mountains and valleys invite you to enjoy active experiences in nature. We recommend, for example, the Solztal cycle path on the route of a former railroad line or the Kuppenrhön tour. Ask at the hotel about other routes.

Hiking in Waldhessen makes you want to enjoy nature. In Friedewald and Bad Hersfeld, there are well-signposted and partly asphalted routes and varied hiking trails, including the Dreienberg extra tour or a beautiful stage of the Luther Trail, which leads from Friedewald via the Toten Mann (480 m) and the Kathuser Seeloch to Bad Hersfeld.

Golfers will find various golf courses around Friedewald. We particularly recommend the Bad Hersfeld Golf Club, a beautifully situated 18-hole course surrounded by nature, which is suitable for both beginners and experienced players. Other top courses nearby are the Kurhessischer Golfclub Oberaula or the 27-hole Praforst Hünfeld golf club.

The spa town of Bad Hersfeld is very close to the hotel and right in the heart of Hesse - perfect for a short excursion. The Bad Hersfeld Festival, one of the most famous cultural events in the region, takes place here every summer. The historic abbey ruins, built in the 12th century, are among the largest church ruins in Germany and are transformed into a large open-air stage during the festival. By the way: some of the well-known artists from radio and television also stay at our hotel during this time and sit table to table with guests at breakfast. Also exciting is the Wortreich Museum in Bad Hersfeld, a hands-on museum on the subject of language and communication.

Monte Kali - the white mountain, also known as Kalimandscharo - is a rare potash mountain near Heringen, which attracts attention from afar with its surreal appearance and bright white deposits. Created by the potash mining industry, the mountain now offers a unique view. The “mountain” is also accessible to hikers and visitors, who can experience the contrast between the natural landscape and the industrial past.

The famous Wartburg in Eisenach is only a 40-minute drive from the castle hotel and, as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is home to some of the most important historical memories. It was here that Martin Luther, as Junker Jörg, translated the Bible from Latin into our language. You can also explore the small Thuringian town of Eisenach and the surrounding area.
